Pillars of Change

Pillars of Change is a multi-part Public Art for Change initiative encouraging action on pressing social and environmental issues.

The project raises awareness and amplifies the work of both prominent and emerging BIPOC and 2SLGBTQ+ identifying artists and collaborators, partners, and the public.

Pillars of Change supports all three objectives outlined in Toronto’s Public Art Strategy (2020/2030) – creativity, community, and everywhere – and is presented in partnership with the City of Toronto as a signature ArtworxTO project.

It is rooted in the Nine Pillars of Sustainability – Green Building Design, Alternative Energy, Water Management, Waste Management, Food Security, Green Space, Transportation, Public Art and Design, and Civic Engagement.

The artist edition works commissioned for Pillars for Change were viewed by over 8,000 visitors to the Gardiner Museum and the open editions of the posters have been downloaded by more than 1,500 students around the world in a truly global outreach for climate activism.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of our partners in Public Art for Change
