Our name comes from the nine pillars essential to building sustainable communities. They serve as the foundation for everything we do.

The 9 pillars inform the work we do. Through Imagining My Sustainable Community, students learn how to design and build communities sustainably; through Public Art for Change, artists express their vision of a sustainable future; at No.9 Gardens, we demonstrate sustainability in action; and Cloud 9 celebrates the promise and potential of creating a sustainable lifestyle.

Goals to transform our world
The United Nations has established 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Goal #11 focuses on building sustainable cities. By choosing to act sustainably we choose to build cities where all citizens live a decent quality of life, and form a part of the city’s productive dynamic, creating shared prosperity and social stability without harming the environment. As of May 2020, most national and city governments are revisiting urban planning to help ensure cities are inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
