Imagining My Sustainable Community empowers students with an interest in art, design, and architecture to re-imagine the future of Toronto’s waterfront neighbourhood.

In this week-long camp, students will be immersed in a creative multimedia studio experience led by artists and architectural designers to learn about climate art, architectural model-making, and sustainable communities. Students will be introduced to principles of architecture and led, by artists and designers, through demonstrations of scaled model-making as well as multiple art practices that students may use in their final pieces.

Through an innovative exploration of the creative process and climate change solutions, students will utilize No.9’s pillars of sustainability to imagine, design, and model their own unique projects. This experiential camp will equip students will many diverse art and design skills, as well as revolutionary ideas and dynamic solutions in building more sustainable communities. $400/week + HST

Camp starts at 9:30am and finishes at 3:00pm.
There will be a lunch break from 12:00pm-1:00pm.
Camp will run from Monday to Friday during the following weeks.

Camp Sessions
July 4th-8th

Lunch or lunch money: we recommend campers bring their own lunch, we will all have lunchtime outside in the courtyard, weather permitting.

Sunscreen/hats/sunglasses: campers will be outside for lunch everyday as well as on additional site-visits, art field trips, etc.. Campers will always be accompanied by a staff for off-site trips.

Water/water bottle: it is a good idea for campers to bring a refillable bottle to fill up during the day. There is an accessible kitchen and water fountains throughout the building.

DAY 1: Introductions, Site-Visits, Concepts of Sustainability and Architecture, Mapping, Ideation.

DAY 2: Brainstorming, Outdoor Natural Materials Exploration, Drawing and Sketching, Visit to Power Plant Gallery, Climate Art Exploration.

DAY 3: Introduction to Architecture Poetics and Scaled Model-Making, Finalizing Individual Project Designs, Drawing and Sketching Ideas, Physical Model-Making.

DAY 4: Individual and Collaborative Model-Making, Finalize Designs and Art Pieces.

DAY 5: Final Touch-Ups, Oral Presentations, Final Art Showing of Projects. We invite all parents to attend the camper’s Final Art Show between 2pm-3pm.

Imagining My Sustainable Community is a revolutionary new program that is engaging and energizing young people in a way never before seen in Canadian public education. It delivers an experiential workshop on how communities work, and inspires and empowers them to create solutions that will improve life in their communities for years to come. It’s not a lesson - it’s an experience.
